We are not seeking any guardian homes at this time. (January 2012) We are committed to have every breeding dog live as a pet in a home rather than house multiple dogs in kennels. Guardian Homes allow us to expand our breeding program and still have just a few dogs living as pets in our own home. Here are some frequently asked questions (and answers!) about our Guardian Home program: What is a Guardian Home? For the males, the dog will need to be available to us for breeding, sometimes on short notice. He can either visit us during the day, or we can keep him here for a few days. We try our best to be flexible around the guardian family's schedule, but sometimes Mother Nature can't wait! How many litters will my dog have? Can anyone be a guardian home? We require that the dog will not be left home alone for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. This can mean committing to a daytime dog walker, but our preference is that someone is home for most of the day — a stay-at-home parent or a retired couple. Home offices are a plus! Our breeding dogs are accustomed to being with people for the majority of the day. We also prefer that our guardian families live in a house or townhome with a fenced yard. Guardians need to maintain their dog's obedience training by taking classes. Dogs in guardian homes are able to participate in other activities like agility or flyball, or train to be certified as a therapy dog team, but it's not required. This is like getting a free dog, right? The guardian family will earn back their deposit incrementally, with payments once a year. By the time the dog is finished with his or her breeding career, the family will have earned back the entire deposit. How do I apply to be a guardian home? You can also use the form below:
